C4 vs. C6

First, there is the difference between the hysteroid and intellectual triads. C4 is attached to their image and emotions; E6 is drawn to structures which alleviate existential fear. Both can be subordinate, conforming, and tenacious, but for different reasons. The entire identity of C4 is based on tenacity, with the crazy idea that “if I suffer in silence, I will finally be loved and recognized.” Their childhood can be associated with love-denial; the mother was absent or unstable and caused an excessive craving for maternal love in the child. C6 is neurotically preoccupied with doing things right to eliminate uncertainty, fear, and a lack of security. They have a habitually vigilant attitude toward the world, where everything is threatening. So the unconscious focus is on finding structures or authorities which can deal with this fear once and for all. Both can also yearn for an ideal, secure environment, but again for different reasons. C6 has the unconscious distortion of “if I depend on something stronger than me, I can survive and be loved,” which turns into an idealistic vision of “something greater,” a perfect environment where they cannot be threatened. C4, in contrast, can seek ideal love and find themselves desiring a perfect emotional connection because they feel deprived of love, not of security.
